It's Always Cooler at Tony Grove

Spring has finally sprung at Tony Grove (the lake was still frozen 3 weeks ago). We headed up today for a picnic and a hike around the lake (and an impromptu skinny foot dip by the kids).

There is a canyon on yonder side of the lake called "waterfall canyon." I've never seen a waterfall there. My parents have only seen one there once or twice before.

There was no waterfall as we hiked by the canyon, but when we looped back to the parking lot, a dull roar filled our ears and suddenly there was the waterfall.
A glacial pool builds up on the snow meadow above the lake, and when the conditions are right it breaks through and cascades down waterfall canyon. Today was our lucky day.

Tony Grove is on my list of Top 10 favorite places in the world. In fact, I was there on Monday. I didn't notice the waterfall though. :(

I hate that place. It's stupid and ugly and horrid.

Holy cow, when were you there?! We were there yesterday as well, and saw the waterfall, and snow, and everything you did! We were there probably from about 3:30ish till about 5:30ish! Did we pass you, or were you there earlier or later? We didn't realize it was so unusual to see the waterfall!

(From Lynette): We left to go home about 3:00. We're sad we missed you! Next time we'll communicate!

So lovely. Doesn't it make a quirk in your chest when you see your kids climbing the same rocks and spashing in the same water you used.

(Cue music) This used to be my playground...
