Grownups Say the Darndest Things
Sometimes I wonder what the world is like for a 4-year-old, particularly when it comes to language. Bryn is so literal with idioms. I just told her to be a good sport about sharing with Calvin, and she said (defiantly), "I'm not a sport. People don't play with me like I'm a ball. I'm a girl."And today for some reason I started singing "Dancing in the street," and she got her wide-eyed concerned look on her face and then started laughing hysterically and said, "we don't really dance in the street," and then added a bit more seriously, "do we, mom?" Poor kid. I'll have to remember not to say "that cost me an arm and a leg," anytime soon.

It burns, it burns!
I had no idea a kiwi could be so vindictive. There I was eating dinner, and after enjoying one sweet succulent kiwi, I decided to dive into another. This one was not quite ripe, but I decided to suffer through it anyway, since I'd already peeled it and the dang thing was expensive. As I ate it, I noticed a slight burning sensation at the end of my tongue. And yet, I determinedly ate more. I guess there was a pretty high acid content, because two hours later my tongue was still burning, and I had bright red raised bumps all over it. It felt like someone had sandblasted it and poured lemon juice on it. So beware: never eat underipe kiwi (NEUK), unless you too want a set of new taste buds.

Too much thought for food?
I've stumbled onto a routine that has greatly increased our quality of life: meal planning. I know, most of you have done this for years. But I decided that I'd take each day of the week and give it a theme, and pick dinner accordingly. So here's the new schedule:-Sunday is Crock-Pot day (chili, Roast, Root-beer pork, etc.)
-Monday is Pasta day (spaghetti, manacotti, lasagna, ravioli, etc.)
-Tuesday is sandwich day (hamburgers, french dip, chicken parm., etc.)
-Wednesday is rice-based (mango-chicken, stir-fries, ham-fried rice, etc.)
-Thursday is Fish day (salmon, fish sticks, seafood in general, etc.)
-Friday is Pizza/misc. (homemade, delivery, frozen, steak, wild-card, etc.)
-Saturday is Poultry day (any manner of chicken or turkey dishes- this Saturday is oriental cabbage chicken salad)
Anyway, it was super easy to make our grocery list this week because the picking meals is so much easier now. Dinner is much more on time now, because we don't spend 30 minutes just trying to decide what to have. And we manage to have more vegatables because they're planned in advance. So this is a very successful New Year's resolution thus far.

Unwelcome intruder in my basement
We use to get these all the time 2 houses ago, and not just in the basement. I consider myself a pretty tolerant person when it comes to our exoskeletoned cohabitants on this earth, but these centipedes cross the line. This one was the size of my pinky, and faster than Flash Gordon.
